Hua Shang  商華  grow up in Chengdu, China. She dreamed about becoming a filmmaker when she was a little girl. Recently, she came to realize that making films is no longer a remote childhood “dream.”  It is actually something she truly wants to pursue and excel. Right now, she is voraciously studying anything about film, carefully absorbing stories from real life, and gratefully embracing every moment of her journey to the film wonderland.

She graduated from Barnard College with a BA in Political Economy in 2014. During her college years, she did various fascinating internships all over the world: studying environmental policies and urbanization in Manila, researching Japanese small political parties in Tokyo, and analyzing international woman’s issues in New York.

In 2018, she completed her screenwriting MFA at American Film Institute Conservatory. Her first feature screenplay FLY was placed among the "Top 20%" of 2017 Academy Nicholl competition entries. Her first pilot AS AMERICAN AS FORTUNE COOKIES was a Finalist in 2018 Athena Film Festival TV Lab and a Semifinalist in the 2018 Humanitas college comedy fellowship. Her spec for the show TRANSPARENT advanced to the Second Round in the Sitcom Spec category at the 2017 Austin Film Festival. Her spec for the show MR.ROBOT advanced to the Second Round in the Drama Spec category at the 2018 Austin Film Festival.
